The Winter Shelter provides emergency services to homeless adults during the months of October through April.  It serves over 50 people each night between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Through our outreach efforts, word-of-mouth and the local police department, individuals seeking shelter are encouraged to report to a designated central location between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.  They are then transported to a site where cots, bedrolls, food and coffee are available.

Site designations and meals are provided by a variety of churches in Virginia Beach on a rotating basis.  At 7:00 a.m. the following morning, clients leave the shelter until that evening's collection period.  Participation by local churches and public agencies makes this Shelter a true community partnership.   This program was established in 1990.
