Intellectual Disability Services

Volunteers of America Chesapeake currently operates 13 residential programs offering supportive living services, while empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to live independently in their community. Our programs are located throughout Maryland, Virginia and District of Columbia.

Volunteers of America Chesapeake not only follows national best practices but also offers these unique best practices:

  • Support individuals regardless of age, type or severity of their disability or life skills.
  • Focus on a person’s abilities and build on a person’s strengths to create their own unique person-centered-plan.
  • Collaborate with the individual and his or her family to develop a full support network. This network usually consists of parents, friends, employers, co-workers, neighbors, doctors, teachers, friends, etc. We call this team of people the circle of support.

Our goal is to ensure that anyone being served in our program experiences full satisfaction and reaches for their absolute highest potential in all areas of their life.
