Baltimore Mental Health

Located in Baltimore City, Maryland, Volunteers of America Chesapeake's  Baltimore Mental Health Program provides quality psychiatric and residential rehabilitation services to adults with mental illnesses, plus mental health services and advocacy to outside clients. The program was established in 1991.  The 28 residents are offered individual treatment plans, large spacious homes, transportation, 24-hour supervision if needed, life skills training, nutrition, education, socialization and activities, annual vacation, entitlement assistance, and medical and mental health referrals.

Living in one of seven group homes, these individuals have moved from inpatient hospitalization or 24-hour supervised care to medication compliance, socialization and employment -- signifying success in their long road to independence.  Residents prepare meals, do laundry and perform housekeeping tasks. During the day, they attend community rehabilitation programs and adult education classes or participate in other types of group activities. Some residents are able to work. All receive therapy from a community-based provider to address specific treatment needs.
