Baltimore Mental Health Services
For 28 residents of the Baltimore Mental Health Program, life is transformed. Thanks to caring staff and exceptional programming, these individuals have moved from inpatient hospitalization or 24-hour supervised care to medication compliance, socialization and employment -- signifying success in their long road to independence.
Living in one of seven group homes, residents prepare meals, do laundry and perform housekeeping tasks. During the day, they attend community rehabilitation programs and adult education classes or participate in other types of group activities. Some residents are able to work. All receive therapy from a community-based provider to address specific treatment needs.
All residents at Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s Baltimore Mental Health Program consider this housing to be their home – where they can live in a more independent environment than in restrictive inpatient programs – and become participating and contributing members of the community.
Established in 1991, the program provides quality psychiatric and residential rehabilitation services to adults with mental illnesses, plus mental health services and advocacy to outside clients. Offering individual treatment plans, large spacious homes, transportation, 24-hour supervision if needed, life skills training, nutrition, education, socialization and activities, annual vacation, entitlement assistance, and medical and mental health referrals, this program is funded through Medicaid fee for service and operates under service agreements with the Baltimore Mental Health Systems and Maryland Health Partners.
