DC Core Services Agency
On any given day, more than 10,000 homeless people wander the streets and alleys of our nation’s capitol. Of these homeless, a large percentage suffer from mental illness and are unaware that help is available.
That’s why the District of Columbia’s Department of Mental Health partnered with Volunteers of America Chesapeake to establish the DC Core Services Agency in 2007. Serving the area’s mentally ill residents, particularly homeless individuals who are not currently accessing services, this certified DC Core Services program reaches out to potential clients by sending workers into the community to find and build a rapport with people. Referrals are also accepted from community organizations and individuals.
Once enrolled, clients have direct access to qualified professionals who deliver mental health diagnostic/assessment, counseling, community support, and medication/somatic treatment services in a caring and compassionate manner.
